Sustainability networks connect local enterprises
The Redcliffe Sustainable Business Network startup workshops in September 2024 saw participants from various businesses and community organisations come together to discuss strategies for improving sustainability. The same will happen elsewhere in the Moreton Bay region of Queensland early next month, with a lively sustainability event in Samford.
Connecting, learning and sharing ideas
Green Street facilitated two workshops in Redcliffe, one in the evening (4th September 2024), and another in the morning a week later (11th September), allowing more participants to attend and mingle with like-minded local enterprises.
The workshops included activities that generated thoughtful, lively discussions about what people could do to boost sustainability in their enterprises. When asked why they wanted to do this, participants gave many reasons. These ranged from a heartfelt desire to protect the environment for their kids to business imperatives such as cutting costs, reaching new markets and improving staff and customer experiences.
By analysing their current situation, participants could acknowledge successes while spotting opportunities to do more. Identifying potential barriers was a key part of this exercise because it’s the first step towards changing attitudes, behaviours or processes. The workshop participants discussed psychological barriers such as staff/customer attitudes alongside practical factors such as cost and the availability of sustainable alternatives.
About Sustainable Business Networks
The workshops in Redcliffe supported the launch of the Redcliffe Sustainable Business Network. Although called a ‘Business Network’ it is open to all sorts of enterprises – community organisations, businesses, startups, industry groups and governmental organisations. Sustainable Business Networks aim to promote, practise and share learning on how to be sustainable, creating a positive impact in the local area.
The Redcliffe Network is an initiative of the Redcliffe Sunrise Rotary Club, supported by the City of Moreton Bay Council and the Redcliffe Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.
Network members connect via networking and learning events, facilitated by resources from the Green Street online sustainability platform. They can communicate via the Redcliffe SBN Group in Green Street’s Community, and access comments, links and workshop notes. Members can also display signage and an online logo to promote their commitment to sustainability and raise awareness.
Upcoming sustainability event in Samford QLD
Green Street will hold a different type of workshop for the Samford Sustainable Business Network in early October. Local enterprises will serve up a smorgasbord of sustainability examples and have the opportunity to learn about practical tools and strategies. Find out more here.
