10 Steps Towards Sustainability

- Overview
The 10 Steps Towards Sustainability map out a simple, logical process to guide businesses in their sustainability journey. There's an introductory video and an online guide with a description of what to do for each of the ten steps.
Each step links to other Green Street resources or external information that can support your progress through that step. Because it's a general process rather than a strict methodology, businesses can adapt it to suit their aims, resources and priorities.
- Purpose
Most business owners know improving sustainability is good for business as well as the planet. But if you're busy running a business it can be hard to know where to start and which path to follow. And as you go along, it's easy to get lost or sidetracked.
The ten steps are designed to help you picture what a typical path towards a more sustainable business might look like. This also acts as a reminder to stay on track. The process is intentionally simple. That's because it's specifically designed to make it easy for organisations of any size to have a go at being sustainable.
To keep the process manageable, the ten steps are distilled from the much more detailed Sustainability Roadmap. That has 4 stages, each with 10 aspects to work through, and an online survey to track progress. You can use the roadmap in conjunction with the ten steps if you want to look at more detail in certain areas. Alternatively, just use the 10 Steps as a general route planner.
- Who it’s for
Business owners (particularly of small to medium businesses) and managers of commercial or community organisations who want to improve sustainability within their organisation.
As a way of making the process simple and transparent, the ten steps are also of value to employees or community group members wanting to encourage their organisation to have a go at being sustainable.
